When you start out in manual therapy, oil is usually the default. It’s what we’re taught, and for a basic glide, it gets the job done.
But as your treatments evolve and you start integrating deeper tissue work, cupping, or remedial hot stones, standard oil often falls short. It slips when you need purchase, masks tissue feedback, and makes precise control a constant battle.
Rodney Lanesbury, a Remedial Massage Therapist at Whole Body Health and Healing, experienced this exact shift in his clinic. Here is what Rodney had to say about making the switch to MWax:
"When I completed my Diploma of Remedial Massage, we were taught to use varying amounts of oil depending on the level of grip or glide we wanted to achieve. While that worked, I often found that oil reduced some of the tissue feedback through my hands. At times, I felt I could miss areas of restriction or simply glide over adhesions rather than being able to properly engage with them.
Since moving to MWax, it has integrated seamlessly into my clinical practice. I find it gives me much greater control over the amount of grip and glide I need, while still allowing me to clearly feel what is happening within the tissues beneath my hands.
This has become particularly useful as my treatments have evolved to incorporate techniques such as cupping and remedial hot stone therapy alongside more traditional remedial massage. MWax works really well when transitioning between these different techniques without compromising the level of control I have.
I particularly value it for deeper tissue work and mobilisation techniques, where I want good contact without excessive slip. It is also fantastic when I want to maintain a slow, sustained glide or friction through a particular area, as I can work gradually through the tissue while maintaining consistent contact and feedback.
Overall, the biggest difference for me has been the combination of control and tissue feel. It allows me to adapt the amount of glide I need without losing that connection with the tissue, which has made it a very natural fit within the way I now treat."

Elevated Control for Evolving Clinics
Rodney’s experience highlights something every practitioner encounters as their skill set grows: your medium needs to work with your hands, not against them.
Whether you are working through stubborn adhesions, maintaining a slow and sustained fascial glide, or switching between remedial massage and myofascial cupping, you should never have to sacrifice tissue feedback for slip.
When you have total control over your traction, your work becomes more precise, your hands stay saved, and your outcomes improve.
